Who we are looking for

The Tempest team is growing fast and we are looking for a passionate and innovative designer to join our Creative team! In this role, you will collaborate with other agency teams to lead the design of cutting-edge websites, create impactful digital marketing campaigns, and craft compelling brand identities for destinations across North America.

Our designers interface directly with clients, and immerse themselves in their destination in order to create a bespoke website design that truly embodies the local community. The ideal candidate brings 5 or more years of design experience, preferably with an agency that builds websites.

We are looking for team players who value diversity, hard work, and creativity. Bonus points if you are passionate about the travel industry. Candidate must submit a portfolio for consideration.

A day in the life of an Art Director at Tempest

• Design compelling websites and digital marketing campaigns that inspire travel
• Travel to destinations across North America to engage with clients, immerse yourself in their brand, and align on project objectives (6–12 trips per year).
• Collaborate with creative, development, and growth teams to develop design concepts and craft cohesive, visually striking solutions for client presentations.
• Present and articulate design concepts to clients in a way that builds excitement and secures approval.
• Create comprehensive style guides and finalize design assets for seamless handoff to the development team.
• Adapt and resize marketing campaign assets for multiple media placements while maintaining visual consistency.
• Review website builds to ensure design fidelity, consistency, and high-quality execution.
• Communicate and coordinate with internal teams through Slack, Google Meet, and email to ensure project timelines and goals are consistently met.
• Identify opportunities to expand client relationships by introducing additional Tempest services across creative, web, CRM, and marketing channels.
• Track and document your time across project tasks while continuously seeking ways to improve workflow efficiency.

Skills

• Experience leading the design and art direction of design projects for clients.
• Strong conceptual and visual design skills with a sharp attention to detail and brand consistency.
• Ability to articulate and present design concepts and rationale to clients and internal stakeholders with clarity and confidence.
• Skilled at managing multiple creative projects in a fast-paced, collaborative, client-driven environment.
• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign, XD).
• Bonus: Proficiency in UI prototyping, animation or video editing (Figma, AfterEffects, Premiere).
• Working knowledge of responsive design principles and web technologies.
• Familiarity with digital marketing and brand development, including campaigns, social media, and visual content strategy.
• Understanding of accessibility standards, and analytics-informed design decisions.
• Exceptional communication and collaboration skills, working closely with internal and external teams while fostering a positive, productive team environment.
